LITTLE HOUSE MOVED to MUSEUM

MAUD LEWIS HOUSE leaves Marshalltown Digby County and goes down the highway to  FIND A HOME in the
Nova Scotia ART MUSEUM in HALIFAX

Here is the little house in original place just outside the town of Digby about 20 mins from my cottage in Sandy Cove.It was covered with flowers and butterflies and tulips but here is is falling apart after 1970 when Maude died and Everett lived there alone until he was murdered by teenagers who though he had lotss of money hidden under his mattress . . .or so the local story goes . . .Everett was very poor and he copied Mauds paintings to try to survive . . .he hardly had a fortune hidden anywhere!!
A society was formed to try to keep the house in good shape but this was not possible and it started to fall apart in the 1980s so eventually it was sadly parted with to take it to its new home in the ART GALLERY of NOVA SCOTIA where it is lovingly taken care of and there for all to see!!Inside ,Maude had painted everything with flowers and butterflies . .. It was the ultimate dolls house I used to think at age 10 when we would visit!S.
Here are photos of the little house going down the road to Halifax and live happily ever after .  . .

  3. just picked up a print by artist F. Trask and was wondering about the artist Maud Lewis which is featured in this print with Maud and husband out in the yard and in front of this quaint home. Your information added a wonderful story to the print, thank you.
